About James
Dr. James Quach is a board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon with more than two decades of experience treating complex fractures, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal trauma. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Dr. Quach served twelve years on active duty, including two combat deployments where he provided life-saving orthopedic care to injured service members in austere and high-pressure environments. His military service instilled a commitment to decisive, efficient care and a deep respect for the resilience of his patients.
Dr. Quach earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, one of the military’s premier training hospitals. He then pursued an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, the world’s first and one of the most renowned freestanding trauma centers. This fellowship provided advanced training in the management of complex fractures, polytrauma, and limb-threatening injuries.
Dr. Quach’s clinical philosophy centers on a patient-first approach that prioritizes non-surgical treatment whenever it can achieve an excellent outcome. Having treated injuries ranging from battlefield trauma to weekend sports mishaps, he understands that surgery is a powerful tool but not always the right one. He takes the time to educate each patient about their condition, present all available options, and collaborate on a treatment plan that aligns with their goals and lifestyle. As a trauma surgeon contracted with hospitals rather than a practice that profits from performing procedures, he has no financial incentive to recommend unnecessary surgery.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Quach remains active in the San Diego medical community and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. He is fluent in English and Vietnamese, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of San Diego. When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Quach enjoys spending time with his family, staying active outdoors, and giving back to the veteran community that shaped his career.
